Since its debut on the Australian calendar in 2002 the IRONMAN event has seen tremendous growth, both in size and reputation among the triathlon community, and widely recognised globally as a world class sporting event. The event has become enormously popular with athletes and spectators alike and is renowned as a spectacular destination race and holiday venue. IRONMAN 70.3 Busselton is one of the largest events of its type in Australia and the Asia Pacific region. Many spectators line the foreshore of Busselton to cheer on the athletes over the 1.9km swim in the pristine waters of Geographe Bay, 90.1km flat and fast bike leg thru the Tuart Forest and a 21.1km run along the foreshore of Busselton. The IRONMAN 70.3 forms a large part of the SunSmart Busselton, Festival of Triathlon.
